A few things to know about me

[ Name ] Dana Rosamund Teagle
[ Pronouns ] she/her
[ Occupation ] Designer & web/software developer
[ Location ] Tkaronto, Ontario
[ Astrological signs ] Libra sun/Leo moon/Scorpio rising
[ Pets ] Two cats (Snufkin and Winnipeg)

I've spent most of my life making neat things on the internet, between developing websites and software, designing graphics and posters, managing social media, and editing video content. These days, I primarily work as an independent contractor for businesses, freelance professionals, artists, and non-profit organizations.

I'm especially passionate about hand-coded websites, accessible equity-centered design, user-friendly interfaces, and open-source software, as well as projects that intersect with advocacy (particularly for queer and trans communities).

Outside of my work in technology and design, I've also worked in vegetarian restaurant and café management, directing and editing for film and television, consulting on technical solutions for small businesses, and leading workshops for 2SLGBTQ+ folks.

I'm a lifelong science-fiction nerd, former comic book collector, and current cassette tape collector. When I'm away from my keyboard, chances are I'm making playlists, reading library books, watching movies, or walking around the city taking photos of pigeons.

You can find some examples of websites, applications, and designs I've worked on in the sections below, or on my Instagram page, and you can learn about the freelance services I offer a bit further down this page. Also feel free to check out my most recent resume or read testimonials from my past clients.

TG I.D. (2025)

The TG I.D. project will be an online hub providing resources, documents, and moderated information about how to change one's legal name and gender marker with the federal and provincial governments as a transgender, non-binary, Two-Spirit, or otherwise gender non-conforming individual living in Ontario.

Since 2021, I have led workshops on how to change names and gender markers for both federal and Ontario identification documents. The TG I.D. website is aiming to launch in late 2025 or 2026.

You can find documents, resources, and presentation materials I've previously collected for Ontario Trans I.D. at this link.

The project is built with React Remix, and uses Hydrogen as a headless Shopify storefront for online orders, and Strapi as a headless CMS for non-storefront related variable data (hours, events, menus, etc.). The site's custom design was wireframed using Figma, and styled with SCSS.

I was the lead developer on the application in summer 2023, working alongside Haley Tibbitts and our project manager Zhenia Tomé, with funding and support from Parallel 42 Systems and Windsor Hackforge. Note Taken website screenshotThis is a notes app built with Angular, Typescript, and SCSS, that stores all inputted data locally without sending anything to a database. Unless deleted, your notes remain secure in the browser on your device until you clear the cache. You can save up to 50 text notes of 140 characters each in various colours. They can be sorted, filtered, searched, edited, and deleted, as well as exported to a .txt file. I originally developed the site in Feb 2023 as Pigeon Pad, and then relaunched it as Note Taken in Sept 2023 with improved functionality and an updated design.

The Pigeon Hole website screenshotThis is an application for viewing images of pigeons in different cities around the world, written in HTML, jQuery, and SCSS, and using the Flickr API. The site retrieves JSON data representing photos of pigeons, either in the user's selected city or in a random city, it shuffles through those image objects, and then it displays one of the photos on the page.

I originally built the Pigeon Hole in July 2022, relaunched it with improved scripts and updated styles in Sept 2023, and I continue to update and improve it periodically.

The services I offer

I'm currently taking on freelance projects for web and software development, graphic design, digital content strategy, and website auditing. Please feel free to reach out and we can discuss your goals, deadline, and budget in more detail. I'd love to help make your dream project a reality!

Web/software development projects will often involve an initial discovery process to establish your specific needs, after which I develop a unique road map for the project, and together we find a quote that compensates my estimated labour while meeting your budget.

For smaller-scale projects, ongoing maintenance work, graphic design, and consulting, I work on an hourly rate.

I develop all of my web projects with consideration for responsiveness (functioning seamlessly across devices), search engine optimization, and web accessibility, and rigorously test for usability and performance before launch to ensure every potential user gets the ideal browsing experience.

Things my clients have said about me

“I consider myself a pretty articulate person but when it comes to communicating our vision for TrueHistoryBeer.com, we spent years lost in the wilderness. Like many other business owners I'm not very literate about the language of websites and how I want something to look and feel. Dana's superpower is her ability to translate ideas; to hear what I'm saying and tell me what I mean. That seems simple but it unlocked all of our potential and a process that used to give me anxiety suddenly became fun. I've worked with many people and few have made me feel as at ease and confident as Dana.”
