Pride & Prejudice 2005
this pastoral picturesque adaptation is somehow more beautiful than I even thought; every frame is an artwork in it's own right. the way the camera floats around the gorgeous sets, wandering from scene to scene, feels evocative of the flow of austen's writing. I adore the whole cast, though obviously rosamund pike first and foremost (in my mind she has top billing in every movie she's in), but I do also have to give credit to macfayden and knightley for having unbelievably exhilarating sweep-you-off-your-feet chemistry. I really can't think of how you could ever improve on this version today, nearly 20 years on.

Challengers 2024
every second of 'challengers' exudes confidence; guadagino's most confident direction, zendaya's most confident performance, reznor & ross' most confident score, and the most confident editing I've seen in anything this year. this may look like a tennis movie, but it is much more of a dance; our three players circling and spinning around one another with the most precise choreography, tension building until it's dripping with sweat. and then before you know it, the curtains close and the show is over. game, set, and match.

The People's Joker 2022
I barely have words other than: this movie is one of the most beautiful nightmares I've ever experienced, and art like this is the reason I love transsexuals with my entire heart and soul. it was completely worth the nearly two years I waited in anticipation.
